The UNCommon: This interdisciplinary conference for nineteenth-century studies is part of an ongoing collaboration between UNC and King’s College London (KCL).  This conference was thematically related to notions of “the uncommon” during the long nineteenth century, a period when a boom in mass transportation, rapid industrialization, an inflow of immigrant groups, greater mobility among middle- and upper-class citizens, and further advances in technology, among many other drastic social changes, meant that definitions of “normal” were in flux. The conference was held at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill on March 12, 2014.
